Coastal Communities Fund puts Fraserburgh on map

A new Fraserburgh map leaflet has been created aimed firmly at increasing footfall in the town centre by improving promotion of what the town centre has to offer.

Funded by the Banff and Buchan Coastal Communities Fund, the project has been delivered by Aberdeenshire Council’s Economic Development service in partnership with Broch Businesses Together (BBT).

It involved enhancing a Fraserburgh map originally funded by the Fraserburgh Development Partnership and putting in place a targeted distribution plan in Fraserburgh and across Aberdeenshire and Moray via a third party leaflet distribution company.

The printed leaflets will be distributed to various organisations including local businesses,  Fraserburgh Harbour and Moray East Wind Farm, ensuring enhanced promotion to visitors staying for short or extended periods. 

Digitally, the map will be shared on business websites, social media and relevant online platforms, reaching organisations including Discover Fraserburgh Tourism Group, Visit Fraserburgh, VisitAberdeenshire, VisitScotland and the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce.

Broch Business Together serves as Fraserburgh’s business association, established to provide a unified voice for local shops and services within the community and to collaborate with various groups including the tourist board.

With a membership in excess of 400 businesses, the group works hard to support businesses in the town and hosts a series of public-facing events including ‘Boo in the Broch’ and the Christmas Lights switch-on events.

BBT chair Julie Wiseman explained: “The overarching goal is to effectively promote Fraserburgh’s offerings to residents, organisations and visitors – both leisure and business – with the aim of increasing footfall for the benefit of the town's economy. This promotion also extends to highlighting the town's coastal connections, including walking routes, sports, the harbour and, of course, our beautiful beach which really is a jewel in the north-east crown.”.

Welcoming the project, Fraserburgh councillor and chair of the council’s Banff and Buchan Area Committee, Doreen Mair, said: “I’m very impressed by the leaflet which will help visitors clearly identify the many reasons for coming on a visit to the town – from nice places to eat and unique shops and services to our excellent sports facilities. It will also enable them to delve into our history with the Thomas Blake Glover birthplace and garden, the newly-restored Mausoleum and the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses or to simply enjoy our wonderful scenery and award-winning beach.”
